Key Assessment Areas

Pro Trainers UK adheres to NPORS, IPATH, and ITSSAR guidelines to ensure that your staff receives top-notch training. Our assessment reports are meticulously crafted to instill confidence in the competence of your employees in all aspects of the course.

Pre-operational Checks: Conducted thorough checks on fluid levels, tires & wheels, brakes (including parking brake), instruments, horn, lights & flashing beacon, hydraulics, safety devices, steering, battery levels, emergency lowering device, safety harness, securing point, and outriggers (if fitted).

Operator Safety: Verified safety harness functionality before use and ensured correct wearing. Secured the harness to the appropriate anchoring point, considering overhead obstructions, power lines, trees, soft verges, and weather conditions.

Route Safety: Inspected ground conditions, overhead obstructions/power lines, and working areas, placing necessary warning signs. Ensured a clear route to the working area.

Site Safety: Travelled to the working area and set up the machine in preparation for work. Elevated the platform to predetermined heights and locations, including the maximum height as required.

Controls Usage: Safely and competently used all controls to manoeuvre the machine, even in confined areas. Carried out simulated/actual work tasks efficiently. Lowered the platform and prepared for travel to the parking area.

Operator Knowledge: Provided essential information regarding the machine, including maximum working height, safe working load, and maximum wind speed, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge.

End of Shift: Parked the machine securely on firm, level ground. Ensured all rams were closed, and the platform was lowered. Removed the key, refuelled/placed it on charge, checked for defects, and left the machine safe and secure.

The Practical Test and Its Importance

Our MEWP Scissor lift training culminates in a practical test, a crucial step towards certification. This test, validated and approved by either NPORS, LANTRA, ITSSAR or Quality Assurance (depending on your preferences) is a comprehensive evaluation of your crane operating skills. Passing this test signifies that you have attained the proficiency required to operate a MEWP Scissor safely and effectively. It's important to note that this test is not just a formality; it's a rigorous assessment that ensures you are ready for real-world plant operations.

Three stages of Training

Basic Training: This is where you'll learn the fundamentals of plant operation, including handling and safety procedures. It's the first step towards becoming a competent operator.

Specific Job Training: Tailored to your workplace, this stage includes training on specific handling attachments and knowledge of the work environment.

Familiarisation Training: Conducted on the job under close supervision, this stage allows you to apply what you've learned in a practical setting, ensuring you're comfortable and competent in your specific work context.

Test Revisions & Expectations

The practical test has undergone revisions to ensure it remains relevant and challenging. These changes include an updated marking sheet, where certain faults may now score higher, reflecting the emphasis on safety and precision in operations. Additionally, the test now includes a written component, where candidates are expected to achieve a minimum score of 80%. This includes both multiple-choice and open questions, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both practical and theoretical aspects of MEWP Scissor operation.
