The aim of our  Appointed Person training course is to provide the candidate with the essential knowledge and skill to perform his tasks to the highest level.

Appointed Person training courses last between 3-5 days depending upon the requirements of the participants (refresher courses, intensive courses etc.), with partakers developing essential skills like machine operation, health and safety, and accepted good practice.

During the course, participants will be encouraged to participate in practical demonstrations and exercises, as well as learning theory lessons to ensure their understanding of the material is comprehensive.

What is an Appointed Person?

To ensure that a safe system of work is carried out, one person should be appointed to have control of the lifting operation to act on behalf of the organisation requiring the load to be moved. They must have adequate training, experience and technical knowledge to carry out the role competently.
The duties of the appointed person includes, planning, selection of the crane, selection of lifting gear, selection of personnel, instruction and supervision, consultation with other bodies if necessary, inspection and maintenance is/has been carried out, procedure arranged for reporting defects and incidents and taking action if necessary, responsible for organisation, control and safety of the lifting operation.
The duties but not the responsibilities, of the appointed person may be delegated to another person where considered appropriate. This person may be a crane supervisor. The crane operator is not considered to be an appropriate person to act as a crane supervisor, however for a simple operation the appointed person may consider it appropriate to appoint the Slinger/Signaller to be in control.

How long do Appointed Person courses last?

Pro Trainers UK follow a specific set of guidelines as determined by NPORS & ITSSAR to ensure your staff are trained to the highest standard. We utilise the following points to create an assessment report specific to the training course, creating confidence in knowing employees are competent in all course requirements.

Pre-Shift Inspection: Checked & follow Method Statement, Company Safety Policy 2. Stopped job if operations fall outside Method Statement / Safety Policy. Carried Out Risk Assessments / Satisfactory completed. Carried out site safety checks. i.e. Other site personnel & vehicles / Ground conditions / Overhead obstructions / Overhead power lines / Underground Services. Check Ample Room to manoeuvre Equipment, Check valid test certificates for all equipment used

  Crane: positioned Correctly for tasks. Carried out load safety checks 1. I.e. Weight, Size, Location, Lifting Points, Heavy Ended, Any Loose Items or moving parts. 2. All Pre Lift Forms Completed Satisfactory. Liase with Crane driver / Banksman to assist with the loading operations. Agree signal code before loading. Ensure job is carried out safely and under complete supervision

  End Of Shift Procedures: Ensure all equipment is shut down / stowed properly.
