Earth moving equipment is large machines with a number of elements to consider when using, transporting, or maintaining the vehicle. However, with the right training, working with these machines can be a straightforward endeavour. Forklift training, MEWP training, and Crane training are just a few of the options you can explore. Training should begin with being able to identify the different types of earth moving machines; here are the six main ones to keep in mind:

Excavators

Utilised over wheels or even treads, these machines are generally used for two purposes. In addition to being able to shovel large quantities of dirt, these machines are also used to lift cumbersome/heavy bits of machinery. Look for the long bucket arm, attached to a cab with the ability to pivot.

Backhoe Loader

Mounted on tires, these are a common sight in suburban neighborhoods. They do share a number of similar features with tractors, but they aren’t exactly the same either. The biggest difference is that backhoe loaders offer a shovel at the front, which you can adjust. The bucket at the rear is used for digging.

Bulldozer

Incredibly strong, these machines are most frequently used for shoveling huge amounts of dirt around. If the area has wide-open spaces, rough grading, and grinding rock, the bulldozer is going to be absolutely perfect. The huge blade at the front is perhaps the most distinctive aspect of this machine.

Skid Steer Loader

Of all the different earth moving machines out there, the skid steer loader might just be the most versatile. Easy to use, skid steer loaders operate on wheels, and offer a good, tight turning range. They are perfect for smaller worksites. Snow and/or mud are not a problem for these machines.

Motor Grader

The long, adjustable blade to the motor grader is designed to make things smoother. An additional blade is also featured, and it can come in handy for mining purposes. These machines are often needed for the stages prior to laying down asphalt.

Trencher

Before pipes are put down, huge ditches are often needed. Therefore, you’re going to want to use a trencher. Keep in mind that there are several different types of trenchers.
